When I started work, I had to update my wardrobe to professional in a hurry--and on a limited budget, but a trip to Goodwill and some careful choices at Kohl's took care of that.

Suddenly it is spring, and I realized I have no professional summer clothes!  What to do?  I can't wear my capris to work, and I don't want to put a lot of money into clothes when I seriously need to lose weight, because where's the incentive in that? 

I know--I'll sew some skirts with adjustable elastic waists--they can go down two sizes before I need to take them in! 

I hit Hancock's fabrics on a day with all McCall's patterns $1.99, and stocked up on some really cute patterns.  At Walmart I found fabric for $2 and $2.50 a yard for my first skirt and blouse, so I'll have a whole outfit for less than $20.

I picked out blouse patterns with darts and tucks that will also be easy to take in if needed, and I'm thinking of a basic peasant blouse pattern as well.  The only thing I forgot is elastic.  Luckily Walmart is on the way to work! 

My first choices to sew: the blouse on the upper left and the skirt on the lower right.

I'll post pictures when I get the first one done! This is just a teaser!  And more patterns to come.

The Hardest Part

The hardest part of a project is cleaning up afterward. Maybe that's because there is no deadline. I'm going upstairs now, to clean up from the Easter Basket project. 'bye.

To Knit or Knot to Knit?

If it seems like lately all my posts have been church stuff...well, that's pretty much my focus right now.  However, I've been getting a hankering to knit.  I just don't know when I will have time to actually do it.  Any suggestions for cute, quick, and easy projects will be welcomed.  I don't like clunky things, which most knitting results in, but the delicate things take so much time. I'm really still a beginner, but I get bored with knitting and purling in straight rows.  It's more fun to see a pattern develop.

To knit or to give up the idea?  I'm undecided.  Suggestions, please.

Easter--the Atonement

I wanted to keep it simple and try to bring in the Christian meaning of Easter. I found the basic background in Scrapbook Factory and added the flowers and picture of Jesus Christ.

Easter Project Part III--and finished!

Here are the baskets, done but not filled.  

  

Here is one all ready for delivery.  I would like to post pictures of the smiling girls with their finished projects, but I respect their privacy and don't do that without parents' permission.  Some of these teenagers are very sensitive about their pictures.  

Each basket includes a little card with the picture of one of the girls, signed with the name of our ward and "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" printed on it.  The girls decorated the front of the cards with adorable floppy bunny stickers.

The goodies include fun things like an Easter Bunny puzzle, the little pill that you soak in water and it turns into a seahorse or fish, a string to tie onto the butterfly so they can make it "fly,"  the story puppets I showed earlier, a pencil, a scroll with the Easter story, a little container of play-dough, a colorful straw, and paper to fold into frogs, with instructions.  Not too bad for a four-inch basket!  

It was so great to hear the girls cheerfully work and chatter away as they put together the final product.  I hope the children who receive them will be happy and feel our love.

I found a lot of the little toys and goodies at Dollar Tree.  Others I printed from various websites, which I may be able to show and list in a later post.  Right now I need to get ready for my own grand-children's Easter.
